Abstract

The study aimed the Workers' Health and Nursing in a University hospital in the city of Rio de Janeiro and as a problem: what are the most prevalent reasons for the health license provided by the Department of Safety and Occupational Health at a university hospital in Rio de Janeiro nursing workers? Settled two objectives: identifying the number of nursing workers on medical license kept away in a period of twelve months, and collects the causes of these licenses. This is a quantitative research, exploratory, descriptive and documentary, developed in the Department of Safety and Occupational Health. Information was collected from medical workers reference book. The method of analysis was the simple descriptive statistics. The results showed that from January to December 2007, 336 nursing workers received medical license, of which 81.85% were nurse auxiliary’s workers. The reasons for removal were musculoskeletal diseases, mental disorders and behavioral factors. It was concluded that the illness process of collective nursing is alarming, which should be changed through measures of promotion and prevention of injuries and health risks to workers.
