Abstract

Health councils have wide importance in the management of municipal health. The objective of this study was to identify the conformation and work dynamic of Municipal Health Councils (CMS) in Paraná during years 2007-2008. It is a descriptive and quantitative study. The data used were obtained from the database of the National Register of Health Councils (CNCS). The variables explored were the total number of directors, managers, users, workers and service providers, the frequency of meetings, the topics discussed at meetings and counselor training. The study made it possible to understand the composition and work dynamic at CMSs in Paraná State, and conclude there are shortcomings requiring measures in order to correct them.
