Abstract

This is a qualitative study which aims to describe the caregiving process developed by family members/caregivers of children with special needs (CRIANES) at home. For the production data we chose to use of a Creative Sensitive Method (MCS), mediated by the development of the Dynamics of Creativity and Sensitivity (DCS). DCS Body knowledge has the objective of processing the care given at home through the question: "How do you take care of your son or daughter with special needs at home?" The subjects of the study were family caregivers of CRIANES children admitted at a pediatric unit of a university hospital in the southern Brazil. Data were submitted to discourse analysis in the French line. Results showed that the family caregivers of CRIANES developed a preserving and familial care grounded in religiousness and spirituality. It is recommended that pediatric units promote opportunities for dialogue, listening and learning considering the homecare of these children. Furthermore, the education in nursing should go beyond the hospital practices and techniques, envisioning the family circle as a space of health care.
