Abstract

phenomenological investigation that aims to comprehend the meaning of taking care of children who has an advance oncologic disease that illness no longer responds to healing treatments for nursing staff. Interviews with 15 nursing professionals were developed in a southern university hospital in Brazil. The statements, analyzed through heideggerian method, revealed that caring means to be attached to the child for treatment time, supporting the family and, sometimes, put oneself in the mother’s place for also being a mother. It unveiled being-nursing-staff-professional shows itself on being-with the child and family members. It indicated a human being relational nature. It concludes that pediatric oncologic care transcends technical and routine techniques, and it demands competences to provide na specific care for the family and child’s singularities and needs.
