Abstract

The study identified the presence of potentially pathogenic microorganisms in the water around a city from the south of Brazil. This is a descriptive study in which water samples were collected in 12 different places and in pre-determinate time in the years of 2004 and 2005. In each sample potentially pathogenic enterobacteria and parasites interesting for humans were identified. In the statistical analysis, the calculation of absolute and relative frequencies of the data was done. It was collected correlated information from the health information systems at the local level to determinate injuries to the health occurred from the year 2000 until the first semester of 2009. The water around the city presents meaningful levels of enterobacteria and parasites that represent danger to the population. Although the direct correlation has not been studied, the hospital information system has hospitalizations cases caused by diseases correlated to the water expose becoming necessary to monitor certain injuries. Thus, it features the professional nurse as an important element among those who must contribute to these monitoring, producing and distributing health actions with focus on reality and the quotidian.
