In spite of attempts to offer greater safety and quality assistance to the process of becoming a mother, the institutionalization of birth ended up causing significant losses. The presence of health care providers has become merely technical, cold and distant. The woman needs human presence and not only a professional one. We described a synthesis of obstetric assistance along the years and presented the Model of Human Relationship fostered by Hagerty and Patusky (2003), with the intent of indicating methods intended for performing quality and humanized assistance to the woman during her process of becoming a mother.Downloads
