Abstract

This study aims at describing the technological organization in a prehospital life support service to traffic accident victims. This is an exploratory-descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The data were collected by means of observations of occurrences registered by a prehospital life support public service in the city of Porto Alegre, Southern Brazil, and by means of interviews with the professionals involved in this life support service. The results demonstrate the service to be physician-centered, by means of their regulation practice. The support work organization, however, shows Nursing to have an essential role, for it is responsible for over 90% of the calls. The integrated health team work guarantees both the high quality and the promptness of life support service to victims.
