Abstract

The authors aim to analyze the therapeutic, non-directive interactions between a nurse and four women (age: 15, 23, 25, 43) admitted to an Emergency Unity of the Ribeirão Preto Hospital das Clínicas due to spontaneous abortion. Interviews were transcribed and data were analyzed. Results indicate that nurses welcomed the feelings expressed by the women with interest and willingness to help. They allowed the patients to talk freely about their feelings and affective relations, reflecting about their experience of discomfort, about the current time and their future. The comprehensive attitude offered the opportunity for patients to elaborate their loss in a healthy way.
