Fatal work accidents in the municipal district of Cianorte-Paraná state from 2000 to 2003

Abstract

The present study has the objective to investigate the deaths caused by work accident in the municipal district of Cianorte - PR, from 2000 to 2003. From the 107 investigated deaths, 12 were caused by work accidents, but none of them was recorded as such in the death certificates. From the fatal accidents, 11 of them occurred with males being 9 with individuals over 40 years. As for the classification of the accidents, 8 were itinerary accidents and 4 typical. The road accidents were 10 followed by 2 caused by falls. Although underreported, the fatal work accidents represented 11,2% of the deaths from external causes. The results evidenced the fragility of the surveillance system in work accidents, and that even in a small municipal district, the worker is exposed on the street, to the risk of accidents and violence in general.
