Abstract

The factors that interfere in the use of medication in the society have raised concern, because the irrational use of these products generates important and growing economical and social damages. This article brings elements for the discussion and the proposition to organize interdisciplinary actions in the health services for the encouragement of a more rational use of medication. It suggests practices, as example, to prove that the actions regarding selection of drugs, choice of appropriate therapeutics and a follow-up on the use of certain products at home basis can and should be developed in an interdisciplinary manner. It was emphasized the understanding of medication as a health benefit, filled of meanings and social values which demand the appropriate attention from the professionals of health.
