Abstract

This study had the objective to examine the transformations in nursing assistance to the hospitalized child and its influence in the current form of work organization. It consists of a research of qualitative nature of the bibliographical type, carried through from articles, periodicals and books found in databases and university libraries. The results showed that the social concept of being a child, the development of the health services, the health model, the development of the social sciences, and the implementation of assistance to the hospitalized child, have been essential throughout history to the current form of work organization in the pediatric setting. Thus, for the implementation of quality assistance to the hospitalized child, it is necessary for the nursing staff to reflect about they work, reorganizing its works processes based on collective work. Currently, the complexity of the work object in hospital pediatrics demands a transformation in the practices of the attention to the child and its family, as this complexity is not reduced to the organization of one or another work process work in particular, but rather involves the action of different professionals whose acts in health are interdependent and complementary.
