Abstract

The objective of this bibliographic study is to identify the profile of Master’s Theses developed at the Federal University of Santa Catarina that make use of the Theory of Culture Care Diversity and Universality as a reference in their professional practice. The methodology involved 26 Master’s Theses, defended since 1990, including studies declared as care practice or convergent-care research. In order to analyze the profile of these studies, a schematic score containing the main characteristics to be observed was utilized. Descriptive analysis involved convergences and divergences among the data collected, with the actual theory under scrutiny as the interpretative basis. The results show that from 1990 until 2002 there was almost regularly one defense per year. The majority of the titles of the theses are related to the family and individual vital cycle. The most frequent locations of study were hospitals and maternity wards, later following the client to their domicile. As for the objects of the study, it was observed that there is a unanimous concern about valuing cultural care and integrating the participants in the therapeutic relationship. As a conclusion, it was determined that the profile of this production is relative in that which refers to the application of cultural care, and to show the state of the art in a significant portion of graduate work in the southern region of Brazil.
