Abstract

Peripheral vascular catheters are frequent in the patients therapeutic and if it is not installed and handled observing the asepsis principles they can represent infection risk. The objective of this study was to verify the adhesion to the aseptic measures for the vascular access. The study was carried out in six hospitals of Goiânia-GO. The population consists of professionals of the nursing team who work in Surgery Clinics and ICU. Data was collected through observation and registered in a check list. In the 209 observed chances the professionals neglected basic measures for the prevention of infections related to the vascular access. Such measures include the hand hygiene, the use of gloves, the antisepsis of the skin, maintenance of venous infusion in closed system and the adoption of aseptic measures in the medicine preparation. We believe to be essential to invest in the qualification of the professionals and standardization of behaviors, and the implementation of policies of protection to the workers which includes investing in safer equipments.

    Possui graduação em Enfermagem pela Universidade Católica de Goiás (1983), mestrado em Enfermagem pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1991) e doutorado em Enfermagem pela Universidade de São Paulo (2000). Atualmente é professor associado da Faculdade de Enfermagem da Universidade Federal de Goiás. Tem experiência na área de Enfermagem, com ênfase em Controle de Infecção relacionado à assistência à saúde, risco biológico para os trabalhadores da área da saúde e medidas de biossegurança frente a este risco, medidas de proteção antiinfecciosas.
