The lack of appropriate information has been associated with difficulties encountered by stroke survivors and their caregivers on the return to home phase. Their opinion about their genuine needs may help discharge planning and assist the rehabilitation process. This study aimed at understanding the experiences of these individuals and their caregivers. A review of narrative literature in the last 10 years, in the databases Lilacs, Scielo, Cochrane, Bireme and Medline, with their respective strategies was carried out. The selected articles identified: doubts about the disease, difficulties in daily life, family caregivers present adaptation inabilities and are unprepared for home care, positive and negative changes in family relationships, information and orientations in the hospital are inadequate and insufficient, and few studies focused on the role of the physiotherapist in this process. The analysis also recommends assistance and support programs for family caregivers at home, and indicates that the information can reduce their inabilities.Downloads
