This study aimed to describe and analyze the actions of self-care and care resources used by patients with hepatitis B. With a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, analyzed based on the content analysis method and on records from a Local Health System in Florianópolis. It was analyzed by measures of central tendency. Regarding self-care actions, the results show the majority of the interviewers knew what kind of disease it was; what are the ways of transmission and some necessary care; how to identify the source of contamination was unknown. The carriers ignored the existence of immunization and demonstrated changes in their emotional state and lifestyle after the diagnosis. They stated adopting ways to avoid the disease transmission, and making use of hospital and ambulatory health service and epidemiological vigilance. The study evidences the need of expanding and articulating the health assistance accessed by Hepatitis B carrier. The knowledge obtained will approach the Theory of Self-Care to the deviation of sexually transmitted diseases.Downloads
