Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the health of nursing assistants working in a private hospital in Fortaleza-CE.This is a descriptive analysis, conducted in January and February 2009. Participants 52 nursing technicians and information were collected through a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed by frequency distribution. One of the points raised was the calculation of Body Mass Index, 25 (48%) were underweight, 13 (25%) with normal weight, 13 (25%) were overweight and 1 (2%) first-degree obesity. 12 (23%) practiced physical exercises regularly and the majority, 40 (77%) did not make any kind of exercise. 40 (77%) performed regular preventive examinations and 44 (85%) did not smoke. 26 (65%) had normal blood pressure, 8 (20%) borderline normal, 4 (10%) mild hypertension and 2 (5%) moderate hypertension. It was found that most participants did not eat the ideal amount of water and also not have healthy eating habits. Thus, it is important that hospitals develop strategies aimed at the promotion of occupational health in a holistic manner, not focus only on occupational health.
