Abstract

Exploratory descriptive study of qualitative approach with the objective of knowing the preventive measures used by the inhabitants of a county of Mato Grosso on the control of malaria. Sixteen subjects were part of the research. Data were collected by means of semi-structured interviews with closed questions about the characteristics of the participants and open questions about the preventive measures used to prevent against malaria. The reports were organized and arranged in categories which were analyzed and discussed based on existing literature on the subject and previous experience of the researchers. The results showed that the preventive measures adopted by the population are not homogeneous; most of them were those recommended by the government. However, some respondents use other ways to protect themselves against malaria, derived from their beliefs and there are those who prefer not to use means of preventing the disease for they do not believing in its effectiveness.
