The family as research object and focus of attention of the health professionals has been the reason of many investigations in the last years, as well as the Non-Infectious Chronic Diseases (NICD) due to the changes in the epidemic profile of the population. It consists of a bibliographical research of studies involving families and NICD in which the objective and the type of the study, the theoretical referential, the approached subjects, and the content of the professional care were focused. Seventeen works related to the family subject and chronic disease, including thesis, dissertations, and works of course conclusion were identified. The studies indicate new elements in the family care, as, for instance, the valorization of the teamwork and the family in the attention given to the bearer of NICD. The researched material allowed to notice the importance of the network support of the family to face the disease, but it also showed that it is fundamental to invest in the professionals' qualification to work with families, in the adequacy of the health institutions, and in public politics for the families, with concrete plans and actions in the sense of turning into reality the proposals of SUS, promoting the easy access to the health services for the families whenever they need it.
