Abstract

The study aims to present a report of the experience of the construction and use of a Nursing Process, according to Abdellah’s Theory in a pediatric inpatient unit of a public university hospital. This Nursing Process was applied to hospitalized children and their companions from February 2009 to July of the same year. It also worked as a strategy, for obtaining data on life and health conditions of children and their families. The application of this methodology contributed to bonding formation on the patients, at the time of their admission, which facilitates the development of the nursing process through a holistic view, encompassing the social, educational and psychological aspects of these individuals. The exposure time of each record was, on average, 40 minutes, which was the main difficulty found on the approach. The experience of using a methodology based on nursing theories helped to justify the practice and improve the quality of nursing care provided to children and family, leading the nurses to adapt it for professional practices.
