Abstract

This is a qualitative and descriptive study, which aims to identify the main assistance practices developed by professionals from Family Health Strategy Program, in a city in the northwest of Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, carried out with women and families who experience a miscarriage. Twelve professionals were part of the study, through semi structured interview. Data were analyzed following thematic analysis. In the present essay, two themes are presented. In the first one, perceptions related to the experience of a pregnancy loss emerge, in the point of view of the professionals that participate in the study. In the second one, the focus is the care practices adopted by these teams when assisting these women and families. Miscarriage can be described as a course of suffering and pain, expressed by the feelings of sadness, frustration, incapacity and guilt. In view of that, the health professionals must adopt practices emphasizing listening, home visits, allowing grieving to the entire family.
