Abstract
Child and adolescent labor is a Brazilian reality despite its prohibition. When young workers have occupational accidents (AT), they are attended by the cities’ public system. This study aimed to identify, through hospital files, the number of children and adolescents with AT and its characteristics. This is a qualitative study carried out in a school hospital in Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil, where 6,122 medical files of accident victims were consulted related to two years. It was evidenced that there were 22 children working in diverse jobs in the period, the majority (54.54%) with age between 11 and 15 years old, AT caused (36.36%) by motored equipments, by falls and/or collision with motored vehicles (27.27%), by bakery equipments (18.18%); by drills and electric saws (13.6%). They suffered amputations, severe traumatisms and other similar problems. Despite legal prohibition, children and adolescents work and suffer great damage to their health. Orientation to families could be done explaining that problems with potential to hinder working children and adolescent’s physical development can occur.Downloads
