Control of diabetes mellitus in users of public health unit of the city of Campinas, São Paulo state

Abstract

The control of Diabetes mellitus in a public health unit is fundamental, taking into account its increasing importance, transcendence and complex vulnerability. This is a descriptive study with the purpose of characterize the individual with Diabetes mellitus and the control actions regarding their illness, in a public health unit of the city of Campinas - São Paulo state. Data were obtained in interviews with members of the team and researches in available records. The unit carries out actions essentially related to the non systematic individual clinic assistance, with the participation of communitarian agents, nursing assistants, nurses and physicians. The referral to educative groups and the participation of users is performed in a non systematic way. The team does not follow a common protocol of treatment of the disease and does not maintain a database that allows them to evaluate, in an individual or collective level, the impact of the control actions developed. The records in reports are not sufficient, under the qualitative and quantitative point of view.
