Severety of traffic accidents in Maringá-Paraná state

Abstract
This study had the purpose to analyze the victims of traffic accidents, happened in the municipal district of Maringá-Pr, according to some indicators trauma severity. The data were collected at the Registration of First Aid Service (FROGS) and/or Bulletin of Police Attendance (BO). The indicators selected to analyze the severity of the trauma were: Glasgow Coma Scale (ECGl), Trauma Revised Scale (ETR), need of medical assistance at the site, and number of lesions by victims. For the analysis of severity according to the category, the differences were assessed by Chi square test. The results showed that the main categories of victims were: motorcyclists (38.6%), cyclists (26.3%), car occupants (22.5%) and pedestrians (9.5%). As for the severity indicators, 3.5% of the victims presented moderate and serious graduation in the ECGl and 1.5% in ETR; 40.8% received medical assistance in the place of the occurrence; and 41.2% presented more than three lesions. The results also showed that the differences are statistically significant between the categories and the severity of the trauma for the ECGl, medical assistance at the site and lesion number, indicating that the greatest vulnerability is among the pedestrian, cyclists and motorcyclists.Downloads
