Nursing diagnosis in pregnancy: a case study

Abstract

This study had the purpose to plan the nursing care in pregnancy, based on the theory of King and the use of a cientyfic method. Data were collected in December 2002, through structuralized interview and revision of the individual’s file. The three first stages of the nursing process, suggested by King (1981): exploration of data base, elaboration of a list of identified problems (diagnostic phase) and priority of goals to be reached with the participation of the customer were applied. The nursing diagnosis “deficit of knowledge on breast-feeding and childbirth related to the lack of prenatal orientation” was approved by the pregnant woman, having been traced a plan of nursing in this sense. It was oserved that the adoption of the nursing process as a scientific method, allows systemization, prioritization and optimization of the nursing care.
