Father's opinion about breast-feeding

Abstract

The present study discourses on the father's opinion about breast-feeding and his hole in the process, on the period that his wife was breast-feeding. It had as objective the gathering of information to improve the educative assistance related to breast-feeding, aimed at the newborn's fathers. A hundred fathers - whose children aging between 1 and 12 months old who that were being or had been breast-fed - were interviewed. The interviews occurred at the Escola Paulista de Medicina's Pediatric Outpatient Ward, in the city of São Paulo. The research showed that the fathers recognize the importance of natural breast-feeding, although they need to be better orientated about the theme and encouraged to participate more actively in the process.
