Abstract

Summary: An investigation with qualitative nature developed in the city of Maringá-PR, with the objective of knowing the representations of three-generation families about raising their children. The study was accomplished with families – most times represented by their women – that had in common the fact of having had or having a son/ daughter, grandson/granddaughter, great-greatson/ great-granddaughter that had gone or was going to kindergardens. The data was collected in the period of January 1996 to October 1997 through open interview. The results showed an influence on the social-cultural context and, because of that, a great change ocurred in the way the families raise their children throughout the course of only three generations.
