Abstract

The Family Health Program consists of a reorientation strategy of the health care model that, along with other health care areas, aims to promote the full care and quality of the individual and his family. People who require more complex services are sent to Specialized Units, but continue to be monitored by the Family Health Program who knows and values the physical and social space of the population served. This case study analyzes the social representations that the workers in specialized units have on Family Health Program, seeking to understand the integration of these health services in São Carlos, São Paulo, Brazil. Semi-structured interviews with three professionals of the Specialties Centers that develop actions demanded by the Family Health Program were carried out. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and then analyzed in a qualitative and quantitative way, through ALCESTE 4.7 software, which helped in the creation of five classes. The social representation of that group on the Family Health Strategy is that this is similar to a Basic Health Unit, but closer to family. A disconnection identified between the services and lack of completeness in the care was identified. It is necessary to better understand the meaning of the Family Health Strategy by the professionals in order to consolidate the care network in the municipality.
