Abstract
The objectives of the study were to describe the impact suffered by the patient with cancer when diagnosed with the disease, and identify the possibilities of discussion with the nurse about the limitations it imposes on the sufferer. It was a study of qualitative approach, with participation of twelve patients under chemotherapy treatment. The 'Almanaque' creativity and sensibility technique along with interviews were applied. The subjects revealed their difficulties as for the acceptance the diagnosis, on the changes in their daily life, and regarding their ambivalent feelings, expressed in their actions and reactions. Facing these difficulties, the dialogue becomes essential in order not to reinforce in the patients their incapability in the management of their own actions. Besides that, it collaborates for the relief of threatening feelings to their integrity, it supplies information concerning the disease and treatment, it establishes trust relationship with the nurse so that they can verbalize their fears and express their doubts, developing solidary and supportive ties to face the situations involving cancer.Downloads
