Abstract
A longitudinal study with the purpose of identifying the percentage of adolescents that use condoms in a six months period, and verifying their reasons to continue or to discontinue the use. It was carried out in a Healthcare Center of Fortaleza-CE, with 30 adolescents, attended from August/2006 to January/2007. The attendance was registered in the beginning of the condoms use, after one week, 15 days, one, three and six months. Twenty-one (70%) adolescents continued the use of condoms during six months. Continuity of the use was mainly due to acceptance of the partner who was motivated by dynamics adopted in the study to repeat the experience of use and thus develop the habit; the discontinuity was due to the difficulty in returning to the service to receive the condom and non-acceptance of the partner and/or even of the adolescent who took part on the research (did not like, uncomfortable, itching). The Fisher-Freeman-Halton test identified association between satisfaction with the condoms and continuity of use (p=0,003).Downloads
