Abstract
Pregnancy is a physiological process, and the birth of a child a natural situation in life. However, such circumstance may precipitate a crisis state which is triggered by the individual’s incapacity to deal with certain events. This study aimed at identifying and analyzing the satisfaction level of users concerning the care received from the nursing staff during pregnancy. Twenty women in a puerperal period were selected at a public maternity in the western Amazon region in January 2006, whose pre-natal follow-up had been integrally given by the hospital’s nursing staff. Data were collected by means of an exclusive questionnaire, composed of socioeconomic and demographic questions in addition to thirteen closed questions (varying from very good to bad) and thirteen open questions. The obtained answers were grouped in tables, and the closed questions were analyzed by descriptive statistics while the open questions were evaluated by qualitative analysis. The results showed that the users were satisfied with the care given by the nursing staff during the pregnancy period, which was generally rated as very good or good. Characteristics such as attention, commitment, empathy and kindness were recurrent explanations for such result and this has made us sure that the nursing staff has contributed to meet the needs of pregnant women, which greatly influences their mental health.Downloads
