Abstract

The purpose of this descriptive and exploratory study, with a quantitative approach was to identify the strategies used by nurses to perform the Systematization of the Perioperative Nursing Care (SPNC), in its pre, trans- and post-operative stages. Seven in service nurses from the area of assistance in Perioperative Nursing answered a questionnaire about the implementation or not of the Systematization of Perioperative Nursing Care and about the strategies they used for its accomplishment. The results show that the nurses do not perform all the Systematization Phases (87.5%), and that the strategies used were: in the pre-operative - telephone contact, guidelines in the infirmary and guidelines at the reception of the operation room; in the trans-operative - participation in the procedures, helping in the preparation of the patient for the surgery in the operation room and helping in the recovery of the patient in operation room and; in the post-operative - visit and guidelines in the room/infirmary after the surgery.
