Abstract

It is a case study based Horta’s Theory of Basic Human Needs and on the International Classification of the Nursing Practices (ICNP) aiming at systematizing nursing care to a binomial mother-infant (mother of twins) in a university hospital. Making use of the phases of the nursing process allowed establishing the nursing diagnoses, the expected results and the nursing interventions. The latter were implemented and appraised. Results of the study evidence that the use of Horta’s Theory and of ICNP© Version 1.0 in practice provided an improvement in the quality of assistance and it contributed to a more holistic and humanized care, once in them the human being is perceived in all their needs, bringing benefits not just for the clientele, but for the profession as well.
