Abstract

In this study the authors discuss the Quality of Care Model©. Research on the topic was conducted using bibliographic sources combined with critical analysis of them. This model is classified as a mid-range theory of nursing, and it was proposed to assess, analyze and guide the professional practice of nursing, based on theoretical-conceptual-empirical links between the quality of care and human care. Its main elements are the structure, process and results. The structure includes: providers of care, patient / family and health care system, and their causal past. Cases are the interpersonal relationships between nurses, patients and multidisciplinary team. And the results represent the future, and include intermediate results and final service. The independent practice and the collaborative practices of nursing, should be described, measured and assessed in order to generate scientific evidence, and the improvement of care. The model offers practical guidance for the care with excellence, and suggests that research is essential to show the contribution of Nursing as a science and the art of caring.
