Transmodernity as the fifth stage of the ecological-decolonial praxis of the philosophy of liberation

Keywords: decoloniality, ecology, eco-creativity, philosophy of liberation, politics, transmodernity.

Abstract

This paper is a presentation at an international colloquium held at the University of Nanterre (France) from 21 to 22 November 2023, a few days after the death of Enrique Dussel. This paper locates the relevance of the thought of the philosophy of liberation in the present, particularly with regard to the concept of Transmodernity. Critical observations are made on the concept of the political and politics used by Dussel, based on a periodisation that is not limited to the past to the present, but rather attempts to prospectively locate the tasks and the future of this thought, so that it continues to contribute to the specific intellectual praxis of philosophical and social-scientific reflection. Furthermore, as a prospective horizon that tries to suggest possible political-epistemic meanings for the communities, from searches for concrete utopias as collective trials and experimentations. For this, the implicit ontology of the political in Dussel should be set aside and a version of the political as an empty space should be assumed, to be filled by social movements in the dispute for the allocation of meaning and direction of the present as a search for post-neoliberal perspectives.

Author Biography

Hugo Anibal Busso, École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers. Paris, Ilhe de France, FR

Hugo Busso's field of research is philosophical modernity in relation to social transformations. In his previous research he has studied and analysed Eurocentric epistemological obstacles to understanding processes of social transformation in Latin America. His current research focuses on new counter-hegemonic practices and alternatives, in conditions of possibility of new socio-political and cultural imaginaries. The emphasis in Ecoocreativity is on the search for alternatives to the current economic globalisation, based on the monitoring of philosophical perspectives and post-neoliberal eco-political prospects, which are being debated in Latin America and Europe. The concept of Eco-creativity - a neologism that unites ecology, cooperation and creativity - is its key theme.

Professor of Languages and Cultures at Arts & Métiers; ENSAE-Polytechnique and ESIEE-Gustave Eiffel (Paris, France). He has been Director of Research in Social Networks and Technological Networks (UNC-Argentina); Professor of Epistemology of Social Sciences, seminars on Symbolism and Archetypes in Contemporary Culture (ECI-UNC); taught General Sociology (IUA) and Semiotics (US21). Dr in Philosophy (Paris 8-UBA); Master in Politics and Law (Paris 3 Nouvel Sorbonne IHEAL), Master in Politics and Public Management (U21-Georgenton).
