Scales of power: masculinities, politics and progress in brazilian northeast of the 1940s.
Abstract
We seek to understand some relationships between masculinity and political power from a multispace perspective. We will work with three main arguments: 1) the continuity of gender/masculinity symbolic-discursive structures between the national, state and municipal spheres from the exaltation of the personality of political and economic leaders; 2) the constitution of an automatic correlation between masculinity and the notions of national/regional progress and development, articulating political and gender structures to the local economic elites in the city of Parnaíba-Piauí; 3) understand some theoretical developments regarding the spatiality of relational spheres, especially from the notion of geography of masculinities.
