O PLANO CRUZADO NA PRESPECTIVA DE SEUS FORMULADORES: PERSIO ARIDA E LUIZ GONZAGA BELLUZZO
Abstract
In the decade of 1980, Brazil went throught an inflationary process that never happened in its history. Seeking to solve this inflationary problem, the government of the late president Sarney adopted, in 1986, the Plano Cruzado, which main estrategy was to neutralize inflation by means of price freeze. The plan was formulated by renomed brazilian economists that took role in his government, ones as Dílson Funaro, João Sayad, André Lara Resende, Luiz Gonzaga Belluzzo and Pérsio Arida. This presente paper adress the evaluation of Plano Cruzado in the comment of its two most important proposers, Pérsio Arida and Luiz Gonzaga Belluzzo, based on interviews conceded after the frustated try of control Brazil’s inflation. It was possible to assume, in the vision of both economists, that the fail implementation of Plano Cruzado was caused by the price freeze.
