Intangible Assets: impact analysis of intangibility degree in business performance indicators - doi: 10.4025/enfoque.v31i1.10586
Abstract
Studies about intangible assets have increased significantly due to its relevance to the composition of the company value. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the correlation among Degree of Intangibility (DI), performance indicators, Asset Turnover (AT), Net Margin (NM), Return on Assets (ROA), and Return on Equity (ROE) of companies from information technology sector and telecommunications. This is a descriptive and quantitative survey. The sample was composed by companies listed in BOVESPA belonging to sectors of Information Technology (5) and Telecommunications (12). The analysis was performed using chi-square (χ²) homogeneity tests and ‘Wilcoxon’ test for checking the existence of differences among analyzed sectors; correlation coefficient test was used for correlation analysis. The controversial literature presents inconsistent results, indicating correlation existence in certain segments and no correlation for others. Results showed no differences among the analyzed segments and, even if the asset turnover has not submitted to a statistically significant correlation with the used performance indices, nevertheless it is suggested to increase the sample, because the limitations inherent in using non-probabilistic samples and further reduced in size.
