Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the impacts of innovativeness and investments in innovation and environment on the performance of Brazilian and Spanish companies. This is a descriptive and quantitative research, in which multiple linear regression analyzes were performed. Measures of performance in value, measured by Tobin’s Q, and performance in profit, measured by EBITDA, were adopted as dependent variables. The sample comprises 75 publicly traded companies, in which 41 are Brazilian and 34 are Spanish, from 2011 to 2016. The results indicate a positive effect of innovativeness and investments in innovation in value performance in Brazilian companies. In relation to Spanish companies, there was a positive influence only of innovativeness on performance in value. Also, it was verified that the environmental investments of Brazilian companies positively influenced the performance in value and profit, whereas, in the Spanish companies, effects of these investments were only verified in the performance in value. In conclusion, in general terms, the innovative and environmental actions positively impacted the performance of the companies investigated.
