Analysis of resilient behaviors used as a means of legitimation in Oi’s judicial recovery plan

Keywords: Legitimacy; Resilience; Judicial Recovery.

Abstract

The environment of political and economic instability contributes to companies developing financial problems and having the need to seek recovery methods, one of which is judicial recovery. Consequently, companies use recovery as a response tool to interested parties, in order to obtain quick responses to situations of turbulence or reputational risk. Thus, the study aims to verify which resilient behaviors are used, as a way of seeking moral legitimation, by the Oi company in its judicial reorganization plan. The study was made operational through documentary analysis of the company’s recovery plan, using the content analysis technique. The results of the research indicate the evidence of traits of behavioral resilience in the search for moral legitimation, demonstrating that the company used resilient strategic pillars for the process of making its financial and organizational restructuring feasible. The report presents the company’s intention to promote institutional adjustments that aim to transmit positive signals to users in the search for standards that reflect beliefs for effective social well-being culminating in legitimacy. The present investigation contributes empirically by promoting a relationship between the search for legitimation through strategic resilience behaviors, enabling stakeholders an assessment more accurate the information disclosed by the companies. In this sense, the findings complement the actions of the strategies of legitimacy strategies proposed by Schuman (1995), as it promotes the association of these strategies with resilience characteristics.
