Relação entre ecoinovação e desempenho: vale a pena ser verde no mundo corporativo brasileiro?

Resumen

Objetivo: No Brasil, um baixo número de empresas de capital aberto apresentam informações sobre avanços tecnológicos ambientais. A literatura abordando recursos naturais tem enfatizado o efeito positivo da inovação ambiental na melhoria tanto nas práticas corporativas quanto no próprio desempenho, mas ainda não há um consenso sobre a mensuração dessa inovação. O objetivo principal é analisar a relação da ecoinovação, medida por Environmental Innovation Score, e o desempenho de empresas brasileiras.

Método: O desempenho da empresa é medido com a utilização de quatro variáveis agrupadas em duas dimensões: desempenho de mercado (QTobin e MB) e desempenho financeiro (ROA e RB), enquanto a ecoinovação utiliza o Environmental Innovation Score (EIS) como métrica. O modelo é estimado por meio de regressão multivariada com dados em painel no período entre 2014 e 2019.

Resultados: Os resultados apontam relação discreta entre ecoinovação e desempenho (medido pelo ROA), bem como P&D negativamente associado ao desempenho. Os esforços corporativos para ampliar investimentos no desenvolvimento de novas tecnologias ambientais não é visualizado em melhores resultados, indicando que não vale a pena ser sustentável no mundo corporativo brasileiro.

Contribuições: A contribuição deste estudo se reflete em dois aspectos. Primeiro, pela perspectiva ambiental, utilizou-se uma métrica sistemática abrangente capaz de avaliar as práticas de inovação ambiental de maneira homogênea. Segundo, em termos de situação organizacional, avaliou-se o impacto organizacional tanto no desempenho de mercado como no desempenho financeiro.
