Abstract
The present work describes the evidence of socio-environmental information divulged by electricitydistribution operators acting in the Northeast region of Brazil and its relation with business developmentindicators. In this study, a descriptive approach was used, which was delineated by bibliographical anddocumentary research; during the empirical phase of the study, a field study was conducted by means ofa survey of the Social Balance of the 11 electricity distribution operators acting in the Northeast region ofBrazil, relative to the fiscal period ending on December 31, 2005. The main results point to a greaterawareness on the part of the analyzed companies of the importance of divulging social-environmentalinformation. The comparison between the indicators obtained by the companies in the release of socialenvironmentalinformation and some indicators of economic and social development assume that latterare not necessarily related to the willingness of these companies to release information related to theirsocio-environmental performance, or to the impact of their activities.Downloads
