Abstract

The process of production of the urban space has intensified, in an accelerated and inadequate fashion, since 1960, generating an urbanistic pressure which shows a series of conflicts between urban development and the thresholds of stability of the physical environment. So, the dynamics of the land use and occupancy, coupled with the weakness in the environmental system and the limitation of the management and territory planning, have highlighted the correlated conflicts and the environmental degradation. Accordingly, we aimed to identify, classify and evaluate, from the “Support Matrix for Environmental Analysis”, the environmental degradation of four distinct points in Londrina (Paraná). Via the results of the evaluation it was found that the risk factors and the environmental problems are present in every place analyzed, which are significantly degraded. The most worrying point analyzed is a valley bottom called “Ribeirão Água das Pedras”, because it presents only 66,6% of “high impact class”, and 87,5% of “potential risk to human health”. It follows that the methodology used showed great applicability to the pre-evaluation of the environmental degradation in areas potentially degraded, serving, so, as an excellent subsidy to the environmental planning.
