THE COMPARATIVE METHOD IN REGIONAL STUDIES
Abstract
This article is procuring a dialogue between comparative method in general and Regional Studies, to elaborate a broader perspective on Comparative Regional Studies. In consequence, its focus is not on regionalization as a pure and simple political-administrative zoning, or on the relative homogenization of space induced through globalizing processes, but it refers basically to the forms and types of activities that are performed by social agents, involving contributions from different comparative approaches developed by political scientists, sociologists, historians and geographers. In this context, a comparative analysis on the regional character of space is proposed by Rogério Haesbaert (2010), which discusses the specific character of the combination of distinct events that promote spatial differentiation through criteria of cohesion/articulation or discontinuity.
