THE PLACE OF THE LUXURY HOTELS IN METROPOLIS: BUSINESSES AND TOURISM IN SÃO PAULO

Abstract

The tourism segment and its arm linked to the businesses and events has become one of the biggest factors for the world strength of São Paulo, what corroborates to the discussions of São Paulo as world city. The activities linked to the events and business tourism, the great hotel chains and the several services related to these two segments of the economy have been contributing to the configuration of forms, structures and functions with world characteristics in the contemporary cities. These activities are bringing in a new atmosphere to the urban space produced by the current phase of the globalization. This way, we could say São Paulo is a result of these new articulations in the world level, what reflects in the local plane many ways, contributing to the reproduction of new urban and social forms.
