THE GEOGRAPHIC LANDSCAPE IN THE CINEMA
Abstract
The present article aims to present the possibilities of interaction between the various areas of scientific knowledge with the artistic expression; in particular, relations and approaches existing between geographic speech and cinematic language. The study and use of films for geographical science can promote a mutual and continuous valuation of concepts, knowledge and disciplines, beyond establishing and broadening the dialogue between the rationalist scientific discourse and the artistic discourse. In the case of Geography, movie images allow us other looks of issues that enable a reading of the landscape that is not restricted to an immediate overview. The landscape in the film is crafted from a set of temporal images arranged to create a story, an organizational sense to human actions on a space, the geographical space. It is essential interpreting, classifying and making sense/meaning of the images. Indeed reading/ interpreting the images allow us to understand the landscape contents of the socio-spatial organization of society today. However, its use and analysis require a prepared teacher who has prior knowledge of the elements that make this language; so that a better application and use of this diversity can be properly promoted. Thus one establishing exchanges with the Arts and doing its analyses can enrich and closer the geographical thinking of the concrete conditions under which men live.
