Abstract

This paper aims to analyze social and environmental impacts arising from the installation of business groups facing agribusiness forestry in Eastern mesoregion Maranhão, and think about the environmental and socio-cultural transformations that occur in rural areas. For the construction work was carried out a literature review of books, theses, dissertations, academic studies and specialized sites. For the realization of the knowledge of the empirical aspects of the study area were conducted field work in order to understand the impacts caused by the expansion of eucalyptus plantations, as well as its implications on the territories of small family farmers, their history, their culture in socioeconomic and natural resources of the area. We also consider ways of life and their variations from the characteristics of the region, traditional communities and their specific products. As we approach the field of rural communities, their socio-cultural forms and contents as well as analyze the territoritalities.
