A CONSTRUÇÃO HISTÓRICA DO CONCEITO DE AMÉRICA LATINA
DESVENDANDO UMA IDENTIDADE
Abstract
The objective of this article was to investigate how the concept of Latin America emerged, in an attempt to reflect on the construction of its identity, and what is the influence of this identity on educational and cultural formation, based on Hall's (2006) understanding that it it is formed in the interaction between the self and society, that is, through the process of inculturation, of teaching the values and customs of a specific people. Latin identity is still a theme under construction, in this sense the authors were discussed Ardao (1978), Souza (2011), Mignolo (2007) Quental (2012); Quijano (2012); Gavião (2013) and Hall (2006). To this end, bibliographic research was used as a methodological procedure in a dialectical approach, with historical analysis as the guiding axis. The starting point was that the Latin America concept has developed within the European social system since the times of colonization. In this sense, it brings with it an identity heritage sometimes loaded with negative adjectives, which justifies the acceptance of Eurocentric values, ideas, feelings and attitudes. Historical analysis made it possible to understand that it is necessary to promote the study of the history of Latin America and the mastery of knowledge of its origins, which justifies the identity of a resistant people, warriors that represent the unification of differences.
