Thinking about the Teaching of Geography in small cities based on urban experiences
proposal for a teaching material considering the local realities of Sarandi, Parana, Brazil
Abstract
This work starts from the verification of the insufficiency on brazilian curricular bases in relation to the demands of teaching-learning in small cities. And highlights the case of Sarandi, Parana, Brazil, proposing specific teaching materials to the local realities. Thus, the objective is to favor the students' criticality by bringing elements about the place where they live for the classes and to make them become more participative in discussions at the local level. Therefore, we consider the educational dynamics that already exist and are part of the work in the classroom. Our results were extracted from interviews with teachers in the city of Sarandi, in order to understand how local issues, and especially urban issues, appear in the classroom. Finally, secondary data that already existed or were produced during the research were considered, bearing in mind that they were not provided. In this way, an infographic on socio-spatial formation with a focus on the location and two graphics that emphasize the structures present in the city were developed, as well as other complementary materials that respond to the teachers’ demands. When showing the products that admittedly could contribute to the Teaching of Geography in this specific context, it was argued that small cities need these teaching materials with a focus on the place, also that they can bring the students' daily experiences to the debate, since it could open a possibility of deepening the systematization of the knowledge of Geography in classes.
