Abstract
Education is a means of building a fair and egalitarian society. However, it is also a means of maintaining structural racism and the colonizer's status quo in contemporary times. For this reason, it requires not only self-criticism but also diverse and critical perspectives on the formative processes. In this article, the objective was to reflect on racism within the school context of the municipal education network in the municipality of Umbaúba in Sergipe and how this is reflected in the work, religious, social and environmental scenarios of students, even when choosing a pet. The methodology used had an exploratory character, of a qualitative and quantitative nature, in which a narrative review of the literature was used for the theoretical basis of the analyzed topic and field research with the application of structured questionnaires for data collection in public schools. basic education in the municipality of Umbaúba-SE. The results pointed to the maintenance of structural racism through pedagogical action in the school environment of Umbaúba-SE, with consequences in the adoption of domestic animals. It was concluded that, in Sergipe and Umbaúba, the majority of the population sees themselves and perceives themselves as black, brown and black, under a necropedagogy that has positioned itself as maintaining the colonizer's status quo in contemporary times while black people learn the basics to be, as before, just a tool of the production system.
