O PAPEL DA FUNDAÇÃO NACIONAL DA SAÚDE (FUNASA) NA GESTÃO DA MELHORIA NA QUALIDADE DA ÃGUA NO MEIO RURAL

Abstract

The Fundation Nationl of Health (FUNASA) has played a fundamental role in basic sanitation actions in rural areas in Brazil. FUNASA is the main agency within the public sector at the federal, state, and municipal levels, as well as in the private sector, for sanitation improvements in rural areas. Therefore, this study aimed to discuss the actions taken by FUNASA for basic sanitation in rural areas, especially to improve water quality. The methodology was based on a bibliographic review through the Informative Bulletins presented in the virtual page of FUNASA, linked to the Ministry of Health, which aims to provide transparency of its activities for these localities. Through the analysis of the bulletins, it was noted that FUNASA has acted in a decentralized manner with the state and municipal governments through agreements for the promotion of basic sanitation in rural areas, acting in the construction of municipal public policies with the municipalities, especially for the construction of the Municipal Plans of Basic Sanitation (PMSB), as well as partnering with state and municipal agencies in the implementation of improvement techniques for the supply of drinking water to rural areas.
